Fold ‘n Stitch Wreath

Need a break from quilting?  Sometimes you just want a quick project, where you see results at the end of the day.  The Fold ‘n Stitch wreath will give you a lovely 3-D project that can be used as a wreath for the door or wall, or as a table topper.  You can make it in various fabrics for different seasons.  And it would be a great Christmas gift.

We have kitted this in two colourways.  One that is in the traditional Christmas of red and green shown below.

And one for a more modern look in grey and black fabrics shown below:

From Immortal to Shangri-La

Immortal Quilt Kit

Immortal Quilt Kit

When I ordered the fabric to make the Immortal quilt shown above, I had to go by the kitting requirements issued by the manufacturer for quantity.  The pattern wasn’t yet available to proof, so this was all stores had to rely on to know how much fabric to purchase.  Well, it wasn’t until we received the book and I read through the instructions that I found the kitting requirements had been double the amount needed for the border print.  So what to do with the extra 4 bolts we now owned?

Kim and I brainstormed one evening and Kim suggested taking 2 repeats of the print, mirror imaging them, and cutting the ends at an angle.  It was brilliant, and a pattern and new table runner kit was born.  Kim sewed the seam, and I quilted and bound it.  Named after the fabric line, the Shangri-La Table Runner is one of our newest kits.

Shangri-La-Table-Runner-3

  • Table Runner finishes at approximately 15″ x 47″.
  • Kit includes the pattern, fabric for the top, binding, and backing.  You provide the thread and batting.
  • $24.99.

Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal Donation

Hi Everyone,

In May our store put 247 bolts of batik on sale for $8.99 per meter.  From every meter sold, $2 was for donation to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal.

I am so thrilled with the huge support for this fundraiser from our customers near and far.  We sold 2695.735 meters of fabric, equating a donation made today in the amount of $5391.47.  When Frank and I went down to the Canadian Red Cross offices, it was buzzing with evacuees and their families.  How wonderful for these people to receive help from the quilting community.  Thank you so much for making this happen.

Festival of Quilts Dinner, May 28, 2016

Along Came Quilting is the sponsor for the entertainment at the Festival of Quilts dinner.  Another fantastic 3-course meal with wine was served at the Wainwright Hotel.  Braised beef short rib was the entree and it was very yummy.  I really must remember to take pictures for everyone to drool.

Following dinner, Catherine Redford provided us with a entertaining trunk show.  She had lots of quilts to share and kept us all amused with her humour and eclectic variety.

The store once again donated two door prizes at the end of the evening.

Kelly Smit of Heritage Park held them high!

The first one drawn was for a $100 shopping spree.  Linda D. was the happy recipient.

The second door prize was the tub of fun with a wide range of quilting and sewing products valued over $500.  A new quilter, Vicki D.  won.

At the end of the evening, Kim M. and I admired Jacque H’s outfit.  What a fabulous design her top would be in quilting cotton!

The always stylish Jacque!

Thank you to everyone who has brought in quilts and crocheted blankets for donation to Fort McMurray.  We are passing the 68 we have received (locally and from BC), shown below, to Erie Quilt Art Distributors who are providing storage for these.  They are working in conjunction with the coordinator of the Facebook page, Quilts for Fort McMurray.

Festival of Quilts – Time to Submit Entries, Buy Dinner Tickets, and Enjoy Last Year’s Photos

In case you aren’t aware, the brochure for the Festival of Quilts held on May 28 and 29 at Heritage Park is now available online and at our store. The entry deadline for displaying your quilts (this is not a competition, simply a fabulous display throughout the park) is April 1, 2016.  So now is the time to fill out your entry form and finish those quilts up.  Remember, without people’s participation, there is no show.

Along Came Quilting is the proud sponsor of the Saturday night dinner and entertainment at the Wainwright hotel. Following a scrumptious meal prepared by the chefs at the park, Catherine Redford will delight us with her entertaining look at “Lessons Learned While Quilting”.  Please call the park at 403-268-8500 to purchase these tickets.  Early bird pricing ends this Friday.

Last year I met up with friends at the park on the Sunday afternoon of the Festival. It was so nice to reconnect and enjoy the quilts everyone so graciously put in for display.  My friends are fabulous photographers, and I am blown away by the pictures my friend Linda Braun took of Heritage Park and the quilts.  You may also enjoy them by viewing them here.

I’ll finish off with a couple of photos of Shelley Bennett’s Common Bride quilt displayed at the Nellie McClung house at Heritage Park last year. Shelley made this quilt in Kim’s class over the course of a year.  It was obvious the volunteers matched the quilt to the room; the lilac walls picked up the lilac colours sprinkled throughout the quilt top.  Photos are courtesy and copyright of Linda Braun.  Common Bride is a pattern by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.  Longarm quilting by Irene Campbell.
